Adepticon 2015

The Renaissance Hotel
Bigger and more importantly, closer venue!  Now it’s  just on the other side of town!

Unfortunately, this year’s Acon was really short for me.  I missed out on the first 2 days due to work.  I thought I would have the whole Saturday but had to leave for a bit for a family thing.  I did go back to meet up with some old friends.  Finally on Sunday I just wandered around some more in the vendor hall and met up with a couple more old friends before calling it a day.

This year’s swag bag was pretty cool which included a number of sweet things:

1) Warmachine starter box- Menoth this time.  Now I have 2 factions for this game.
2) Robotech veritech sprue- Looking forward to putting this together.  I had been curious about the minis although I am noticing far too many small parts.  I am concerned.
3) 2 Reaper paints- Can never have too many paints!
4) 1 Games and Gears painbrush- Ooh fancy!
5) Relic Knights character box- Kinda cool but a little too much anime.
6) Wargames Illustrated magazine- Nice mag.  Will have to peruse this.
7) And a handful of nicely sculpted minis- Mostly nice.  I like the variety.  Helps with painting I think.

I took pictures.  I tried using my trusty old camera but it’s more old than trusty now.  So, I ended up using my phone instead.  You can check them all out, including some of this year's Crystal Brush entries, HERE.

Down this empty hall, the best miniature game is being played. :)
The biggest highlight for me was seeing the great Infinity tables.  Their location was a little out of the way and secluded which kind of sucks.  If you were lucky enough to find the room you were in for a real treat.  So many great tables with awesome terrain.  If you missed out, I suggest you search them out the next year!

Apologies for such a really late post.  I actually had this post all done and ready but forgot to actually put it up!  The good news is that I've been busy playing and painting a lot more Infinity which I hope to share soon!

Skaven Update #34!

Hey, it's my first mini update of the year and a Skaven one at that!

I'm finally done with the IoB warlord.  Freehanding the runes on the banner was tough.  Luckily it only took 2 nights to do.  I did take a couple tries to get them right- well, to the point I was content, I should say.  It still looks rough.  I should go back and maybe weather it.  But as it is, I'm pretty cool with it.

Next up are my 2 Caledonian Mormaers from the Ariadna faction.

Still Kicking

So here’s my very late, overdue post on my very neglected blog.  Last time I posted I was off to a fairly nice pace of painting one mini at a time.  Well that went out the window.  Painting took a back seat.  Way back.  Let me explain.

First Trip Back
Through most of September (a little over 3 weeks) I was on vacation- overseas- visiting relatives.  It was hot and humid.  By day 3, I was down to shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops.  Despite the weather I had an absolutely wonderful time there and I hope to go back soon.

Leading up to my vacation I was working on a project.  I was determined to get most of it done before I left so when I came back I would start on the next project.  I was in very good shape and everything was on schedule.  Two weeks before my trip the project was turned upside down.  I could not believe it.  I was forced to change direction.  I went going into the trip completely stressed out and then coming back from the trip to work on the project for another month.

Work still hasn’t let up.  This year we’re making big strides as a company and this year especially needs to be our best.  I've been concerned about the coming months that even though I’ve bought my Adepticon ticket, I haven’t signed up for anything because of it.

A New Unexpected Hobby
With all the crap happening at work, and since I was at work most of the time I had suggested to my coworkers we play Magic the Gathering.  Y’know that card game.  The card game.  I figured 2-3 of us would get in on it, pick up a few of those pre-made decks and we’d play for an hour or so.  Just enough to be away from our computers.  It worked.  It worked too well.  So much so that the entire department (minus one) got in.  More than in.  More like buying a couple of booster cases right from the start.  By the time it was a week before I left for my vacation,  I was the only one who had stuck to one of those starter decks.  WTF.

The night before I left for vacation, I got this on my desk from a coworker:

After my vacation, it took another 2 months before I gave in.  Although I’m not like my other coworkers who are just flat out addicted to this game, I have picked up a few cards here and there.  We now play a couple nights a week after work, at work.  So yeah, I’m a Magic player.

Okay so that’s what happened in the end of 2014.  So what about 2015?

There’s been a lot of rumors thrown around about the next edition of fantasy and they are game changing.  Game changing like possibly affecting veterans who have invested a lot of time and money.  A kind that plays entirely different.  Of course, there’s also been a lot of feedback.  Personally I really don't like the direction.  But I no longer play the game so I'm pretty apathetic... for the most part.  But if you do care there is one really good read on this and it's from Rob Hawkins.

So I can forgive the Verminlords.  I guess they are okay.  Thanquol and Boneripper gets a pass.  Nice sculpt but the size is a bit crazy.  But the Stormfiends?!  I have fond memories of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was a kid.  Then Michael Bay made his movie.  This is how I feel about the Stormfiends.

Whatever the outcome, I hope the old Skaven gets cheap in the secondary market so I can pick them up!

I can’t say enough good things about this game!  With their Operation: Icestorm starter set released late last year and the new 3rd edition soon after that, the game really kicked ass in 2014.  Because of Infinity and other popular skirmish games the market for terrain got crazy big too.  Companies like Warsenal, Antenocitis Workshop, Bandua Wargames, Customeeple, Micro Art Studio, and Plast Craft Games are all making terrain specifically for Infinity.  I can’t wait to see what Corvus Belli brings in 2015.

Well I still want to continue painting 2 at a time.  Still on the Skaven Warlord and Ariadna Mormoar.  Stuck on the skaven's back banners.  I've been hesitant to jump on it.  I've been buying way too much but not a whole lot of painting.

Oh one last thing, I pledged Antenocitis Workshop's kickstarter, Forward Base.  The terrain looks amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on them... can't wait!  It might be the year I pick up an airbrush to speed up the process.  :O
