Supporting in my Own Way

Hiya folks.

I have been really busy with work and haven’t had any time to do any hobby stuff.  No painting, no assembling, no priming- nothing.  It really sucks.  But being stuck in front of the computer did get me to work on a hobby related project.

A few months ago, a member of Dakka Dakka initiated a little Infinity promotional campaign.  Part of the campaign was to create banners for the message boards.  I volunteered and after a few iterations, they are all done!  You can check the official post HERE or see them below! :)

I had fun working on them.  At least I was doing something Infinity related.  Hopefully, they'll like them.  Anyway, if you are a Dakka member and love Infinity like I do, please show your support and add one to your signature.

Merry Christmas!

How About An Infinity Update?

I got around to prepping some Infinity figs recently.  All Ariadna plus one Aleph.  I primed the Cameronian (the big wolf dude).  I hope to prime the rest sometime over the weekend.

I also got most of my Bandua buildings built.  I'd like to prime them too if I have time.  Have a nice weekend!

Just a heads up if you haven't seen this yet, TABLEWAR started a Kickstarter earlier this week.  It's for their mini case.  If you play skirmish war games this is for you.  If you transport delicate minis/figurines this case is for you.  If you are fed up with your minis breaking in your foam trays this is for you.

Happy Friday!

Here's a badass sci-fi concept trailer, KELOID!  Enjoy!

Pretty good inspiration for Infinity, yes?

Skaven Update #33!

Time for an update!  A Skaven update no less!

Finally got my hands on the new rat ogres.  I don’t play Warhammer anymore so I took my time to pick up a set for really cheap.

Getting them assembled was real simple and straight forward but executing it took a bit of time.  Although the fittings didn’t need glue they were really tight.  I was afraid I’d break something as I was trying to put pieces together.  I’m still not confident I put them together flush and tight.

Anyway, despite that I like the sculpts.  Really nice design.  I do wish their poses could have been more different.  Too bad they only put out 2 designs.

What really disappointed me was how close their size was to the previous rat ogre models.  From the pictures on the web and magazines I had imagined them a little bigger, at least a tad taller.

Eh, whatevs.  I’ve got’em finally and now my rat ogre unit is complete!  But so when’s the next time I’ll paint my skaven?  That’s a good question.  I’d like to know that too.

Oh I have another skaven-related news! What?   I have another conversion idea.  I’ve been slowly picking up bitz online.  Once I have all the pieces or I find out my plan won’t work I’ll let you know.

Other news?

Video games: Finished Red Dead Redemption.  Waiting for Grand Theft Auto 5 to drop in price (means I’ll probably pick it up sometime next year).  Playing Batman Arkham City.

Tabletop games: Avoiding Star Wars: X-Wing but interested in Star Trek: Attack Wing.

Comics:  Loving Marvel’s Infinity story arc.

Miniatures:  Brainstorming on making a display board for my Infinity army.  Picked up some Bandua terrain.  Admiring Corvus Belli's Infinity artbook.  Mmm, pretty pictures.

C2E2 2013

I know that C2E2 2013 was well over 3 months ago but I thought I should still post about it.  I went to support a fellow colleague of mine that is currently putting out his first comic book.

He's the dude that is giving the 2 thumbs up.  The other 2 are his buddies.  Anyway his comic is called the Revival, not to be confused with the "rural noir" zombie themed Revival comic.  His Revival is about the toys we grew up with during the 80s.  Ah nostalgia!  Anyway he is amazing.  If you are interested in his comic go HERE.  If you want to check out his Deviant Art page go HERE.

Overall it was fun time even if I only went for one day.  I'm kinda glad I did 'cause I would have spent a lot of $$$.

In other news...  I've been assembling and basing a lot of my Infinity minis hoping to prime a bunch before it gets cold outside. If you play Infinity you know that terrain is a crucial part of the game.  About a month ago I was at my LGS picked up Bandua's terrain set.

I hope to post something soon about these... well sooner than 3 months.  :)

Adepticon 2013

It’s now close to the end of May and I haven’t posted anything since April.  So here we go!

Adepticon ’13 was quite fun. Well, the most unique experience anyway.

FRIDAY- Came straight to the hotel after work to pick up my badge and swag bag.  I had time to walk around the hotel and checked out all the halls.  The 40k tournaments were – not surprising- insanely huge.  Stopped by the Infinity booth and looked relatively busy.  Personally I think they need a better demo area but what they had seemed to work.  It was the same as previous years so I would think it’d be cool to do something different.  At 10pm I had a color theory class.  Yes, I had color theory back in college so, yes, a lot of it I already knew.  It was a nice refresher and helped reaffirm what I knew.  Brushing up on the basics is always a good thing, I think.  The main reason I went was that Roman and Rafa from from Massive Voodoo was teaching the seminar.  Technically it was Roman’s seminar but Rafa was there too.  Being a huge fan of their site it was really nice see Roman’s approach and thinking.

SATURDAY- Big day.  Tournament day.  I didn’t get a whole lot of time to walk through the vendor hall on Friday so first thing on Saturday I went there.  There were a lot of cool things being shown.  The Mercs booth had an awesome battlefield.  Not sure if it’s available for sale or if it was purely for display purposes.  Nonetheless it was really slick.  A nice surprise was Palladium Books/Ninja Division’s Robotech RPG Tactics.  The minis looked great but I wasn’t feeling the gameplay.  I also noticed an increase in mdf terrain popping up.  I guess with the popularity of skirmish games these days there would be that niche market.

A possible Burn In Design/Ninja Division endeavor?  We shall see...
And the biggest surprise in the vendor hall?  Seeing the logo I did for Battlefield games!

Ka-blam!
After a quick chat with Alexander from Battlefield and a jolt of an ego boost I was off to see more A-con.

Later that day I got a text from Doug from Tablewar to set a time to meet.  Side note, I had bought a case from them but it came with a loose fastener.  The duo Doug and Todd actually remembered me from last year’s Acon so they thought if I was coming to this Adepticon we could meet and see if they can do anything to fix it.  So I met them at their hotel room and in 15min. my case was perfect- just like new!  Thanks Doug and Todd!

I had just enough time to grab a quick dinner and put my Infinity minis in my newly fixed Tablewar display case for my first Infinity tournament!

The Infinity tournament itself was awesome.  Twenty some tables filled with great terrain.  Each table themed.  Can’t beat that.

So having said that, I came in second... to last.  Ouch!  Haha!  But you know what?  The scenarios were quite fun and the players were all quite friendly.  I later found out while I had some good units in my lists (tournament allowed 2 lists to pick from), my overall lists were still very light compared to the lists brought in.  I was also quite noobish in the way I was playing- really stupid mistakes like deploying in line of fire and forgetting to deploy a unit.  Yeah that happened- twice.  And you know what else happened?

Player's Choice baby! Woohoo!
SUNDAY- Last day of the convention.  I didn’t do much really.  Took it easy, watched the Crystal Brush awards ceremony and just talked with the hobby peeps.

Here are a few more highlights from Adepticon 2013.

Brandon's awesome Empire display
Here in the States, bigger is always better!
Um, a beer dispensing display?  You sir are a genius! A GENIUS!
If you want to see more Adepticon pics go check them out HERE.
If you want to see Crystal Brush pics go HERE.

Next, C2E2!

Whew!

Adepticon 2013 is over.  I only had one tournament and I am pooped!  I don't know how those guys who play tournaments all weekend long do it.  I'll post a recap with pictures and stuff soon!

Marching On

Adepticon is less than a month away!  Arrrgh!

I picked up a few more Infinity this month including the Briscards box plus one Loup Garou which I quickly assembled and based.  Great, more minis to prime.  I heard it'll be warm this weekend so I may be able to prime these guys finally.

I plan on making my tokens for Infinity as the MAS tokens while nice is a tad expensive.  I picked up a 1 inch hole puncher, bought a bag of 25mm wooden discs and printed out a sheet of markers.

The hole puncher cuts them a hair larger than the discs but it doesn't bother me.  Now to punch out just the tokens I need for the tourney.

I took a pic of my Skaven in its current state for 2013 and this is how it looks...

Looking a little dated maybe.  I'm thinking of selling a couple of my extra units to pick up one of the new units like an abom.  But, all this will have to wait until after Adepticon.

Blog Update and WIPs

Okay, I really screwed things up with my images.  I also messed my Underempire thread in the process.  I probably won't go back to that anymore since I haven't really updated it in almost a year and it would be easier to just start a new one.  Fortunately my DakkaDakka gallery is intact.  This blog on the other hand will take a bit of time re-posting all the images.  I've re-posted images up to 2012 so 2007-2011 still needs updating.  It's a good thing I don't post much, ha!

Anyway, I've assembled another batch of Infinity minis.  It's more for my Ariadna faction but specifically for the Merovingian sub-faction.

So many WIPs... so... many...
I'm having a hard time finishing Duroc.  I keep redoing areas.  Mistakes and messy work really pop on larger models.  I just gotta push on.

F@#%!!!!

Crap!  I fiddled with my photobucket settings and totally screwed up my photolinks.  That's why you are not seeing any images at the moment.  I'm gonna try to fix this.  So sorry.

Slowly But Surely

It's been been weeks since I last painted.  I finally had a chance to paint last night but didn't really have any focus.  I had no motivation to work on a single mini and ended up jumping from one mini to another.  I think it's because I cluttered up my hobby work station.  So, I cleared the area except 2 minis and started painting.

still WIPs

Duroc is closest to finishing I think.  After him I'd like to finish Margot to complete the team.

Adepticon is getting closer so I need to start thinking of what to bring for the Infinity tourney.  Duroc came out pretty good, I wonder if I should go Merovingian?

I've been neglecting my Skaven a bit so there might be a small project coming up with them.  I'm not sure if I should continue with my rat ogres or work on things that coincide with UnderEmpire's monthly painting competition.

I also finally finished XCOM: Enemy Unknown and was extremely satisfying.  The tactical aspect of the game felt like a lite version of Infinity which is pretty cool.  I guess that's why I had free time to paint, ha!
