First Trip Back
Through most of September (a little over 3 weeks) I was on vacation- overseas- visiting relatives. It was hot and humid. By day 3, I was down to shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops. Despite the weather I had an absolutely wonderful time there and I hope to go back soon.
Leading up to my vacation I was working on a project. I was determined to get most of it done before I left so when I came back I would start on the next project. I was in very good shape and everything was on schedule. Two weeks before my trip the project was turned upside down. I could not believe it. I was forced to change direction. I went going into the trip completely stressed out and then coming back from the trip to work on the project for another month.
Work still hasn’t let up. This year we’re making big strides as a company and this year especially needs to be our best. I've been concerned about the coming months that even though I’ve bought my Adepticon ticket, I haven’t signed up for anything because of it.
A New Unexpected Hobby
With all the crap happening at work, and since I was at work most of the time I had suggested to my coworkers we play Magic the Gathering. Y’know that card game. The card game. I figured 2-3 of us would get in on it, pick up a few of those pre-made decks and we’d play for an hour or so. Just enough to be away from our computers. It worked. It worked too well. So much so that the entire department (minus one) got in. More than in. More like buying a couple of booster cases right from the start. By the time it was a week before I left for my vacation, I was the only one who had stuck to one of those starter decks. WTF.
The night before I left for vacation, I got this on my desk from a coworker:
After my vacation, it took another 2 months before I gave in. Although I’m not like my other coworkers who are just flat out addicted to this game, I have picked up a few cards here and there. We now play a couple nights a week after work, at work. So yeah, I’m a Magic player.
Okay so that’s what happened in the end of 2014. So what about 2015?
There’s been a lot of rumors thrown around about the next edition of fantasy and they are game changing. Game changing like possibly affecting veterans who have invested a lot of time and money. A kind that plays entirely different. Of course, there’s also been a lot of feedback. Personally I really don't like the direction. But I no longer play the game so I'm pretty apathetic... for the most part. But if you do care there is one really good read on this and it's from Rob Hawkins.
So I can forgive the Verminlords. I guess they are okay. Thanquol and Boneripper gets a pass. Nice sculpt but the size is a bit crazy. But the Stormfiends?! I have fond memories of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was a kid. Then Michael Bay made his movie. This is how I feel about the Stormfiends.
Whatever the outcome, I hope the old Skaven gets cheap in the secondary market so I can pick them up!
I can’t say enough good things about this game! With their Operation: Icestorm starter set released late last year and the new 3rd edition soon after that, the game really kicked ass in 2014. Because of Infinity and other popular skirmish games the market for terrain got crazy big too. Companies like Warsenal, Antenocitis Workshop, Bandua Wargames, Customeeple, Micro Art Studio, and Plast Craft Games are all making terrain specifically for Infinity. I can’t wait to see what Corvus Belli brings in 2015.
Well I still want to continue painting 2 at a time. Still on the Skaven Warlord and Ariadna Mormoar. Stuck on the skaven's back banners. I've been hesitant to jump on it. I've been buying way too much but not a whole lot of painting.
Oh one last thing, I pledged Antenocitis Workshop's kickstarter, Forward Base. The terrain looks amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on them... can't wait! It might be the year I pick up an airbrush to speed up the process. :O
